May 2024

3rd May 2024

Each and every week our children blow us away - they really do strive to excel, to demonstrate our values and to be ready, respectful and safe. This term I have reminded our children that although they are small, they are mighty and that their voice and their actions can make a significant impact on the world.
This week our children have made me very proud indeed. From raising money for charity to supporting their friends in distress, they have been doing some amazing things, proving what wonderful citizens they are.
A fabulous example of this is our Eco Warriors. Leading Collective Worship on Tuesday, they shared all their ideas to make our school even more Eco friendly. They spoke passionately about reducing waste and litter and shared ideas for making progress in these areas. Of particular interest was our use of paper in school. The warriors would like to reduce the amount we use and shared an open letter to our staff outlining their ideas. As a result, in addition to all the ideas for reducing paper use in the classroom, we are looking at sending school reports and attendance letters digitally, which will save almost 4000 sheets of paper each year. Their work is another wonderful example of courageous advocacy in action at Alveston. I am in absolute awe of their determination and enthusiasm to make the world a better place and they have inspired us all to re-double our efforts.
With the bank holiday ahead, I wish you all a super weekend, with fingers crossed for some sun!

Swimathon 2024

We are immensely proud to share some remarkable news from two our students. Beatrice (Year 3) and Georgia (Year 6) embarked on a tremendous journey to support Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie by participating in a Swimathon. Beatrice demonstrated her incredible endurance by swimming an impressive 1 kilometre, equivalent to 30 lengths, as part of her family's collective effort to swim 5 kilometres. Georgia in turn displayed remarkable determination by swimming 1.5 kilometres solo in just 45 minutes.

Their efforts not only showcased their physical strength and perseverance but also their compassionate hearts as they raised funds for these important charities. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Beatrice and Georgia for their outstanding achievements and commend them for their commitment to making a difference in the fight against cancer.

Thank you to everyone who supported them in this great cause!

Introducing Alveston Owls: Your Child's Nest Beyond the Bell!

Just 5 years ago there was no wrap around care at Alveston at all. With Cygnets full to bursting, and many of our families struggling to find wrap around support, I asked Simon from FiTT4Kids, if he would help us with a sports club. As a result, we were the very first FiTT4Kids before and after school club! I will remain forever grateful to Simon and his team for delivering this valuable service on our behalf, for our families.

We are now delighted to announce an exciting new chapter for Alveston C of E Primary School.  Starting from September, we'll be swooping in to take over the wrap-around care.

Alveston Owls will deliver our Breakfast Club from 7:45am to 8:45am. To set them up for the day ahead, children will be served a breakfast from a choice of hot and cold options.

After-School adventures will start from 3:15pm and continue until 6:00pm. The children will be provided with their tea from a weekly menu of simple hot dishes and sandwiches.

Operating in the twilight hours around the school day, Alveston Owls will be led by Alveston C of E Primary's dedicated staff, providing greater continuity with the school.

We will continue to offer activities to suit all our children from the more active to the sedate, engaging activities to quiet time, every moment an opportunity for your child to grow, learn, and thrive. Nestled within the comforting community of Alveston C of E Primary, Alveston Owls offers a safe and secure environment for your child to flourish.

With only 30 places available each morning and evening, spaces are limited, so please do register your interest now for September. We will be in touch with more details soon, including costs and how to book.

Please do not worry, the capacity has always been 30 places and it has not reached capacity yet! If over time we do reach capacity, and demand  is high enough, we will of course look to increase its size.

Road Safety

This week, Year 4 completed their Road Safety Training in partnership with Warwickshire Safe and Active Schools. The children discussed the safest time to cross the road considering how we cannot judge the speed of vehicles, the conditions of the road and the layout of the road. We also discussed the fact it is becoming much harder to hear cars coming as electric and modern cars are often very quiet. Year 4 then took advantage of the beautiful weather and performed role-plays outside to help us remember the safe way to cross a road and how we should behave near a road.

Well done, Year 4!

Fitt4Kids Sports Competition Results!

Recently, all children throughout the school took part in an inter-house competition. All classes had four tasks to complete within their house groups consisting of a beanbag toss, speed bounce, hockey dribble and tennis ball shuttle. Teachers were so impressed with the children who worked hard on their accuracy, agility and speed within their teams. The scores were then sent to Fitt4Kids to be entered into a competition against other schools. We can finally reveal the results to you...

....out of the 7 schools that took part, Alveston placed 2nd! What an amazing result, everyone!

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via parents3002@welearn365.com.
