Aiming High: Achieving at Alveston

Alveston's Values and SMSC

Easter Bonnet Challenge

How lovely to see so many families taking part in our Easter Bonnet Challenge! It was an almost impossible task to choose winners. It is wonderful to see that this English tradition lives on!

Remembrance Day 2014

Remembrance Day 2014 was a big commemoration at Alveston! All the work that the children did culminated in a Grand and Great Grandparents' tea party where each class presented some of the work that they had produced. Needless to say, it was thoroughly enjoyed by both the children and the audience! Thank you so much for the positive verbal and written feedback - it is much appreciated!

War Memorial

Years 2 and 6 visited the War Memorial on November 11th. They paid their respects to the fallen soldiers and held a two minute silence. Thank you to Canon Williams and other members of the local community who shared this short service.

Bhangra dancing comes to Alveston!

What an amazing experience for everyone to take part in a Bhangra workshop. The children were so enthused that we now have an after school Bhangra dancing club!

Operation Christmas Child

Once again, the whole school took part in The Samaritan's Purse 'Operation Christmas Child'. We managed to fill over 100 boxes, which were sent to Eastern Europe. In addition, a video was shown to the whole school of a class of African children opening their boxes. How humbling to see the great joy and excitement these small tokens of love can bring to those who have so little.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part.

Charity Work - Comic Relief and Guide Dogs

Inspired by our Collective Worship on Mother Teresa, one of our Year 4 children, James, decided to organise a cake sale in order to raise funds for Comic Relief. £70 was raised - a great effort, James, what a good young citizen you are!

Year 5 baked bone shaped biscuits and sold them to raise funds towards buying a Stratford Cluster guide dog puppy. A massive £199 was raised towards the total needed. We are delighted that we now have a cluster puppy, named Isabella (chosen by the children). This puppy will make a huge difference to someone's quality of life!

St James' Church Advent Event

This year's Christmas event (organised by the church) was inviting members of the community to create an Advent window. Our contribution was for day 10 and it was unveiled on our Christmas Production day (which just happened to be the 10th December!).

A group of our talented artists collaborated to depict a traditional nativity scene based on the children playing the characters from our Key Stage 1 nativity.

Money Matters

Year 5 took part in a Money Matters workshop led by experts from Apex Credit Management. They have created an informative display reiterating the importance of responsible financial management. Soon both Years 5 and 6 will be attending a workshop on money and finance led by pupils at the local secondary school (Stratford Academy).
